Ready Radio Reading

Podcast listeners love books.

There's got to be a study somewhere that says that. Why else would there be so many audio books and book review podcasts? On that assumption... this one's for you, readers!

In honor of the upcoming Wordstock festival here in Portland, Lise and I recorded an episode of Ready Radio on Disaster Literature 101. We interviewed:

  • Our friend John Solomon--Washington Post writer, NPR contributor, and author of the upcoming book In Case Of Emergency, Read Book. We got the scoop (<-- notice clever journalism pun because he's a journalist!) on citizen preparedness, community engagement and how you can help out emergency responders by practicing for your Hollywood close-up.

  • Josh Neufeld--artist and author of the graphic novel A.D.: New Orleans After The Deluge, and guest at this weekend's Wordstock festival. We talked to Josh about his book, the survival stories he so beautifully illustrates, and his own experiences as a Red Cross volunteer.

We also pulled together our recommended reading list of disaster-related books. If you like readiness and reading, you'll really (<--I just couldn't resist another "r") like this episode of Ready Radio.

P.S. We'll be raffling a signed copy of A.D.: New Orleans After The Deluge at Wordstock, as well as a signed copy of Amanda Ripley's The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes--And Why.

P.P.S. Listen to all the episodes of Ready Radio here or on iTunes.
